Avocado

is our Wonderful Word for Wednesday. It is a great word to say - especially if you sound out all the syllables slowly: aaah -voh- caaah-doh. That's how James says it, and it is so cute!

I posted the other day about our breakfast- time green smoothie. James now refers to this as avocado, because he saw me cutting one up last week to go in the morning mix. So - regardless of the ingredients, green smoothies are now called avocado. Cheers!

Conversations with my Mother

are becoming quite a challenge as we grope our way towards what it is she wants to say. It becomes like a game of charades. Take this morning's for example:

Mum: There was this thing on the wireless this morning - it was really good. I thought it would be a very good thing for them.

Me: Oh yes - what was that?

Mum: Oh, I can't remember what it was, but it's been on before - not for a while though.

Me: OK - what was it about.

Mum: I don't know, but it'll come back to me. --- There was five of them and they each had a hill.

Me: Ah - the Teletubbies?

Mum: That's it!


I was quite pleased I got it so quickly.

Book Sharing Monday (xi)

This week we have chosen One Summer Day by Kim Lewis. It ties in nicely with our weekend farm visit (see Shadow Shot Sunday), and, of course the wonderful warm summer weather we have been having.
Max is a toddler who lives in the country. One hot day he is looking out of the window when he sees a big red tractor drive by. Of course, he is desperate to get a closer look and jumps down to get his coat on. When he gets back to the window, the tractor is gone! His friend Sara - a big girl, luckily, stops by and takes him out for a walk. On the way they stop and see lots of things....



...but at last they round a corner and there in the field is...

Shadow Shot Sunday - The old farm

Today we visited an old farm in the Scottish Borders, near a beautiful wee village called Moniaive. It was quite a dull and drizzly day so not too many shadow opportunities, but I did manage one or two shots.

Fridge decluttering

Kristine, over at I love you more than peanut butter, encourages us to declutter every Thursday. Today I had a go at our fridge, which seems to very quickly fill up with empty cheese wrappers, empty yogurt pots, jars with tiny amounts of pasta sauce or curry paste in the bottom, veg that has migrated to the back of the fridge and melted into some black indistinguishable mass, a packaged sandwich that someone had bought, not eaten, but saved till later (2 weeks ago) - you know - it can't just be my fridge! I discovered I had 4 goats cheeses, 3 large cheddar portions and 2 jars of tahini - all organic of course. I also came across 3 packs of feta cheese - 1 of which had a sell by date of February! How did that happen? So - two bags destined for either compost bin, or recycling and a nice clean fridge. Cheese on toast anyone?

Wonderful Word Wednesday

My lovely blog friend The Tired Mummy has come up with a fun meme - Wonderful Word Wednesday. This is a chance to share words or phrases that we love, or funny things our children say. My phrase of the week is "Of course!" This was said to me today by my 2 and a half year old when I asked him if he wanted to have his snack outside - "Of course Mummy!"delivered in a tone that implied I had just asked him a really stupid question :D
Well - the sun was shining - it was warm - he was playing - why on earth would he want to come inside? Duh!
