Climbing the steep steps up the Vennel from Edinburgh's Grassmarket on Thursday, I had to stop for a breather. It must have been fate that stopped me there, rather than being unfit, because right in front of me was this wonderful lamp post shadow, against the city walls. I think this part is the
Flodden wall, built in 1560 - how many shadows have passed by these stones, I wonder?
Check out lots of great shadows around the world with
Tracy at Shadow Shot Sunday.

On a brilliant day in the land of the Scots, the castle is a workout but so beautiful. Who among us mortals could possibly let such a lovely shadow get away? A stunning shadow part of a glorious day at a historic place. Nice!
I was watching a program last night about the wood frame castles built before they started using the stone, stone was a sign of wealth. However, they all fascinate me!!!
What a terrific capture, Jacqui! Oh, I love these old buildings! It was one of the things I enjoyed so much when I was living in Europe! We're such a young country in comparison! And like you, I wonder how many shadows have passed those stones!! Thank you for your kind words regarding my son! Much appreciated! Hope you're having a great weekend!

They're impressive city walls. The walls in my city are very bland in comparison! A great shot! Have a great week!
a lovely captured shadow - it is a long time since I was up in Edinburgh.
What beautiful streets!
Whar stories those stones could tell, fabulous shot. Don't you love it when they just appear in front of you? Lucky that you had your camera with you.

Love your comment ~ "how many shadows have passed by these stones, I wonder?" Great thought!
These walls certainly seem ingrained with secrets! And the lamp shadow suggests a small window on yesterday! Great shot!
Yes, if these walls could talk. A perfect Shadow Shot, Jacqui.
lovely shadows!

Yes, the lamp post is great and so is the keyhole shape next to it so interesting! One wonders what that was for. Nice composition altogether.
I came for Today's Flowers, but find this a much more impressive photo! I love the wall itself, and the shadows simply make it even better!
Wonderful city walls and a great shadow shot. :)
I'm imagining you 'peching' up The Vennel!
Chiming in too that i love the stones (probably more than) and the shadows. Great shot!
(I would probably have 20+ shots taken from 20+ rest breaks lolam!)
